Rouge River Brewing Company
This week we are featuring Markham’s ONLY brewery, aptly named Rouge River Brewing Company.
Quick little knowledge drop for y’all: The Rouge River runs through Richmond Hill, Markham, Scarborough and Pickering before flooding into Lake Ontario and it’s a pretty sweet cut out of the suburbia that surrounds it. It’s mostly greenery mixed in with some scenic views as it stands out as a piece of wilderness that’s remained basically untouched amongst its neighbouring cities.
That is all the knowledge I have on this particular topic. Oh! I went to Rouge Beach with the pup last weekend for a stroll and it made for a good morning filled with some coffee, a little fresh air and lots of sniffing flowers (courtesy of Tucker, not me). So there’s that.
Ok, now let’s talk beer.
Jordan, head brewer and owner, is always working on new creations and looking to experiment and be creative with the brewing process, focusing on these big, hazy IPA’s and tasty, tasty sours. Which is riiiiight up my alley.
I feel like I’m asking too much of breweries when I say this, but I have this expectation that a brewery would have at least a few new offerings each time I visit. Like not for me personally… but in general.
….Wait, imagine? I’m just like “every brewery should have a few new offerings for ME each time I visit” LOL no. That would be in-sane.
But what I’m getting at, is that Rouge River is constantly brewing up new beers and tweaking mainstays to mix it up and have you trying something new each and every time you’re there (unless you’re there every other day – in which case.. is everything okay ?). But it’s great! On top of that, you can tell Jordan puts a lot of thought and focus into each of his creations, because Rouge River has shined at brewing awards for multiple years and for what it’s worth, every time I’ve been there, there’s at least one of two beers that really stand out. Their Zaddy’s offering from earlier this year, where they teamed up with Hatch Coffee was outstanding. I loved it. It was my early nominee for Memorable Beer of the Year (I doubt that’s a real award, by the way).
Add in that Rouge River has been putting on comedy shows and cooking up their own homemade pizzas and what’s not to love about this spot?
Anyways, hope y’all enjoy our little sit down with Rouge River and if you’re in the area, be sure to stop in and grab some beers – after all, it’s the ONLY craft brewery in Markham!
